One of the services that our Company provides are our unique bowling green Autumn Programmes. These are graded Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze and have increased in popularity year on year.
The Platinum programme uses the Graden scarifier to achieve deep and aggressive scarification / thatch removal and this is then followed by hollow coring.

The Gold programme commences with the bowling green being hollow-cored at 50 mm centres with the cores being removed from the playing surface and being disposed of on site.

During this maintenance operation, our green-keeping staff use specialised bowling green maintenance equipment to obtain the maximum benefit of hollow coring, with the least amount of surface damage.
At the end of a long playing bowling season, where stress and wear has had a considerable affect on the green, a growing number of clients have taken the opportunity of using this specialised end of season renovation programme which commences with the club carrying out intensive scarification and then handing over any problems to our experienced team of green-keepers.

Once hollow coring has taken place, the green is over-seeded with our specialised over-seeder to ensure that the seed is placed below the surface to maximise germination. This maintenance practice has proved to be extremely successful on bowling greens that have poor grass coverage and where the sward is weak and predominately colonised by poa-annua.
The introduction of new cultivars of fescue and bent not only ensure that the sward becomes thicker, but enables it to withstand more wear and also encourages finer grasses to establish themselves into the playing surface. This helps considerably in improving the greens speed.
The application of top-dressing is always a considerable undertaking for club members, both in sheer physical effort of applying the material and also calibrating the correct volumes per square metre. With our specialised Metre-a-Matic top-dressers we are able to apply sterilized loose top-dressing onto the bowling green at a considerable saving compared to the club purchasing bagged material which of course is quite expensive and very labour intensive.
Once the topdressing has been applied, the working in of the topdressing is carried out using our large specialised rigid framed lute. This greatly assists in correcting any slight dips or depressions that may have developed over the past bowling season.
The last stage of our Autumn Renovation Programme is the supply and application of an Autumn/Winter based fertiliser. This ensures that the nutrients in the sward are redressed before the onset of winter, and also assists in early development and establishment of the new seed before the colder weather sets in.
This unique, one day, renovation programme has proved to be highly successful in taking the pressure off the few dedicated members of the clubs, who find that the Autumn renovation programme demands a considerable amount of work if done correctly.
Bowls Club Committees are also discovering, when making a cost analysis of greens maintenance, that our one day Autumn Renovation Programme is highly competitive.
